July Wildflowers at Eden Valley, Okanogan Highlands, Washington

July is a month for fruit of many of the early wildflower bloomers at Eden Valley Guest Ranch at our elevation in the Okanogan Highlands of Washington.  July will have a few wildflowers blooming like the Bitterroot and Mariposa lily.

The bitterroot and Mariposa lily are found in drier shallow, well drained soils in mid July.  It is amazing to see such beautiful delicate flowers in dry terrain.

Early July is a great time to hunt for wild strawberries.  Tiger lilies will still be found at higher elevations.  July will show grasses with seed heads.  One of the old native grasses is Needle-and-Thread Grass.  The choke cherry and elderberry bushes will have green berries hanging in clusters.  The roses will have bright red streaked with green rose hips and many shrubs like the snowberry bush will be loaded with berries.  The squaw currant has many redish-orange berries.  The Oregon Grape will have blue berries and Kinnikinnick will have red berries.  So as the wildflower show continues, it moves beyond the blooming stage and into the fruiting stage.
