Bulls Selected in Okanogan Highlands near Oroville and Tonasket, Washington

Our registered bulls were selected because they were bred for gentle disposition, a big beefy build, milk production in their line, live birth weight vs weaning weight and rate of natural growth as well as other desired traits.  We practice a breeding program called heterosis in the Okanogan Highlands near Oroville and Tonasket, Washington.  We run Angus bulls with our mostly Hereford cows and Hereford bulls with our mostly Angus cows.

Gridmaker's Keystone, Eden Valley's Big BullWe purchase bulls when they are just over a year old and these smaller young bulls service our heifers and any old cows.  Our herd is separated so there is no inbreeding.  Mature beef bulls grow until about age five and can easily weigh over a ton.  We sell our bulls at age four or five with many good years of service left.

A bull brings 50% of the genetics for the new calf crop, so bull selection is critical to the bottom line for return on investment.  Dry Gulch Farms at Eden Valley has been weaning calves in the 96 and 97 percentile.  Considering our mountain environment, that is quite an accomplishment.
