Tree habitat depends on aspects of the land, temperature, available soil and water as well as threats such as wildfire or disease. Our resort called Eden Valley Guest Ranch in the Okanogan Highlands near Oroville and Tonasket, Washington has many tree species.
Ponderosa pine trees tend to be found on the south hotter, drier aspects of the hills and mountains and Douglas Fir on the north faces. Of course, there are areas where there are both types of trees.
The Western Larch (Tamarack) needs more water and it is typical to find this tree in draws. An October fall day will show this trend as these trees' needles turn gold before they loose them for winter.
The water loving Aspen, Birch, Alder and Cottonwood can be seen in many of our seasonal water ways and protected draws.
The aspen create quite a show of color in the fall with leaves in oranges, yellows and reds.
